Remember Samil Movement - Korean Independence Day
삼일절 (Samiljeol)
known as Independence Movement Day in Korea
is a national holiday dedicated on March 1st.
The name Samiljeol can be broken down;
삼 (sam) : Three
일 (il) : One
절 (jeol) : Festival day (suffix)
33 leaders came together and drafted
Korean declaration of Independence
and prepared to spread it throughout the nation.
Leaders proclaimed Korea's independence on March 1st
and announced a series of nonviolent protests
would begin throughout the nation.
It soon erupted unpredictably and more rallies and marches
were organized; protestors were school children, housewives,
farmers, craftsmen, politicians, etc.
However, Japanese power holders' response was violent.
Approx. 2 million Koreans had participated in
over 1,500 demonstrations nationwide;
many were arrested, wounded or killed in the act.
The day marks the start to series of demonstrations for
Korean national independence from Japan and was declared
a national holiday in Korea on May 24th, 1949.

March 1st. 2019 marks 100th Years of Independence,
to commemorate this great significant day,
Koreans put out national flags or visit historic sites.
