NANA's English staff getting her RHINOPLASTY at NANA experience | NANA Plastic Surgery staff does her nose job at her own company!

Hi guys, I’m back~ and I have a surprise!!

I had my nose done here at NANA last week! ><

So today, I will be talking about what I’ve experienced going through the surgery! In other words, what it was like being a patient myself!😀

*I will be using one of NANA's Real Model who had similar concerns as an example👍

To start with, why did I choose to go for rhinoplasty?

My main concern was that I had a short nose, the bridge of my nose was low, and my nose overall had no definition. I wanted to have a longer nose with a higher bridge and a pointy tip.

With these in mind, I had a consultation with one of the best rhinoplasty specialist doctors Kim Il Hwan.

I told him all about my concerns and I even showed him a picture of a “celebrity’s nose” which I wanted. I knew that I couldn’t get the exact same nose as we are all born with different noses. But, I still wanted him to get a grasp of what kind of image I wanted for my nose. And I think it helped the doctor clearly understand what type of nose I wanted after the surgery. He listened to me very well and further explained what I would need in order to get near to the image that I wanted.

When I showed the doctor my nose, he told me that I have a small nose. Moreover, I was quite surprised to hear that my columella is retracted. Thus, during the surgery, the doctor will fix the retracted columella. I found out that there are many Asians who do not possess a strong nasal tip projection. Therefore, they have columella that seems to be retracting.

He also told me that I would need to take a CT scan before going under surgery as I had a small nose, which means that I would lack the septal cartilage that would be needed for making the tip of my nose high. If I don’t have enough of the septal cartilage and ear cartilage, this means that the doctor would have to use the rib cartilage as well. I was kind of shocked and scared… But I knew that in order to make a pretty nose, I would have to do as the doctor says.

Right after the consultation, I went to get a CT scan. A few days later, the doctor, seeing my CT scan told me that I have enough septal and ear cartilage and that I wouldn’t need rib cartilage for my rhinoplasty. Hooray~~~!!! In conclusion, I would have to go through open rhinoplasty and osteotomy :D

1- Day

I had my surgery on the 19th of November which was on Friday. Before the surgery day, I was at work haha. After I finished work, I went to a nail shop to remove my nails for the surgery. We have to get rid of all the manicures and pedicures before OP in order to measure our oxygen level during the surgery:D Then, I went home, had dinner, and drank lots of water before fasting. I started to fast from 11 PM. It is recommended that patients fast for at least 8 hours before the surgery. I had my surgery at 10 AM in the morning but I wanted to be safe, so I fasted from 11 PM.

D- DAY

OMG, OP DAY!! I was so nervous when I woke up but at the same time EXCITED to be having a new nose!! I reminded myself not to drink any water! Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, I instinctively drink water. As you guys may know, when fasting, you shouldn’t even chew gum or eat candy. If you are curious as to know why check it out on our blog!

I had to go to NANA an hour before the surgery to prepare for the surgery. I took the subway as we cannot drive our own car after the surgery (DANGEROUS!) I made sure to wear comfy clothes and did not put on any makeup.

I arrived on the 4th floor and first changed myself into a robe. Then I went to wash my face and gargle. After sanitizing myself, I went to the photo room to take a before picture. The reason why we take before pictures is that our pictures will be displayed on a big screen during the surgery for the doctor to look at and consider while doing the surgery. It’s also for us to compare ourselves before and after. After that, I went to a room to have my nose designed by the doctor before going to the surgery. I didnt say much to the doctor. But, I did say this, "Please make my nose natural and high as much as possible" haha. I knew that he will do a great job and I trusted him.

After everything was done, I went upstairs to the OP room. The nurse checked all the requirements and I went inside my designated surgery room. It was kind of awkward seeing my photo on the huge screen, but it was okay as the doctor would see the picture to make my nose prettier.

"literally" me

The anesthesiologist injected an IV and that’s all I remember… haha. When I woke up, I was in the recovery room. Just like MAGIC! I had an ice pack on my eyes as it’s not good to place it on my nose. I didn’t feel any pain. But when I went home, it started to feel uncomfortable. It’s not a pain where you are going to die, but it was a feeling of discomfort. I couldn’t move my mouth well as I didn’t want my nose to move. So, I had porridge for all the meals and made sure that I took the medications well.

Day 2

After I woke up the next day, I was more swollen than the surgery day. I had bruises under my eyes. The nurses recommended that I sleep without lying on my back for deswelling. But I was too tired and uncomfortable to sit while sleeping. So, I just laid on my back and slept which may be why I was more swollen. My FACE overall was swollen. But the pain was better than the first day. I stayed at home and just took a rest. It was hard to breathe as I had merocel in my nose, but endurable.

Day 3

I was feeling much better but more swollen. The swelling went down to my cheeks and jawline. :D I didn’t feel any pain. Everything was great.

Day 4

I went to NANA for my merocel out. I took a day off on Monday for more rest. When taking the merocel out, it felt like a huge pillow had been taken out from the nose. I could feel the cold air going through my nose. I could taste food!! YEH~ I was told that it’s not good to eat any spicy and salty food this is because when eating those kinds of food, it may cause sneezing or may make your nose runny. As a result, it will not have a positive effect on your recovery.

Day 5

I went back to work like I used to. Nothing was bothering me. I was able to do everything, living my daily life~~

1 Week post-op

Had my stitches out. I was really scared that it might hurt, but I didn’t feel a thing haha >..<

I took the cast out and I was finally able to see my nose!! And WOW! It is different and I REALLY REALLY liked it. It just suits my face and it didn’t feel strange. I looked like an avatar, though! Of course, I still have some major swelling but that will go away in a month. But I still love it!! I was so happy😍

It’s my 12th day today. I still have to be careful and not engage in any intense exercises. But so far, I am so glad that I made this choice!!

9 Months Post-op

Hope it helped you guys get a grasp of how patients would experience going through rhinoplasty. Please do ask us if you have any questions regarding surgeries and more!❤
