Comparing breast implants – Motiva vs Mentor
Choosing the right implant for breast
augmentation is probably one of the biggest concerns patients have during a
consultation.
Every patient and every product is different, so the best way is to choose based on your body and your desired shape.
The most popular implants in Korea are MOTIVA
and MENTOR.
So let’s compare the two~
Motiva

To put it briefly, Motiva’s distinct
characteristics are the Smooth SilkSurface and Progressive Gel ULTIMA.
Implant types are divided according to the
level of protrusion (from a very flat implant to a very outwardly round one) – mini,
demi, full, and corse types.
Because the implants come in various shapes
and sizes, they are applicable to most body types.
Outer layer
The outer layer of breast implants can be
classified based on texture and smoothness.
Motiva implants are smooth type. Their distinct Smooth SilkSurface feature was found to have a positive effect on scar tissue formation.
Another feature is the BluSeal barrier layer – a second outer layer which has a pale blue hue. It has a very high tensile strength, meaning the implant doesn’t get damaged easily, however in case it does, cracks form on the surface, thus allowing to confirm the damage with the naked eye.
The outer layer of Motiva implants passed
various tests for tensile strength, breaking strength, tearing strength, and
durability based on ISO standards, making it a very safe product.
Filler material
Motiva implants are filled with the ProgressiveGel
ULTIMA silicone gel which has high viscoelasticity and moves fluidly
according to gravity, making the implant change shape like natural breasts.
In addition, due to the highly elastic
filler, chances of implant rippling or folding are low.
Mentor

Mentor as a brand was established in 1969 and has a long history of implant manufacturing.
Given Mentor’s long history, they offer a lot
of different products.
In terms of implant shape, there is the round
shape and the tear drop shape; in terms of shell, Mentor implants can be smooth
or textured.
Out of implant types we can highlight the Mentor
Smooth Classic and Smooth EXTRA, the latter being the more popular one
out of the two.
Outer layer
Mentor’s outer shell can be either smooth or textured.
For textured implants, Mentor produces the Siltex microtextured implant type; for smooth, the outer layer is like other brand’s smooth implants.
Mentor implant’s outer and inner shell are
layered according to safety standards, making the implants highly safe.
Filler material
Mentor implants are filled with cohesive gel.
This cohesive gel is found in the Smooth Classic and EXTRA types, making the implants soft to the touch due to the gel’s low viscoelasticity.
Tear drop shape implants are filled with cohesive gel type III; they are relatively firm and elastic, flexible to the touch.
For round implant types, the filling rate is low,
between 80% and 90%, causing a high chance of implant folding.
However, the filling rate of textured
implants is almost 100%, which lowers the chances of implant rippling, making
it suitable for patients with thin skin who worry about the formation of
wrinkles.
***
Motiva and Mentor implants are very popular
in Korea, but there are no criteria to say which product is better.
We recommend
choosing the right implant for yourself based on the size of your chest and your
desired shape. If you aren’t sure about the right type of breast implant, refer
to the information above and visit the hospital in person to touch and feel the
implants for yourself, and to consult with a specialist.
