Rhinoplasty FAQ

Many people are often dissatisfied with the shape of their nose and would like rhinoplasty to improve its appearance. With the experience, Nana Plastic Surgery Hospital has with rhinoplasty and other plastic surgeries, today we will answer the most frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty.

Q: How do we know if we are allergic to silicon implants?

There is no way to determine whether you are allergic to silicon before the surgery. Usually allergic reactions towards silicon implants are quite harmless to the body. If you observe that there is either a lot of blood or infection in the area, it may be caused by other reasons such as blood caused by surgery, not following the aftercare directions, the decline of your immune system due to smoking or drinking after surgery, etc. This is rarely caused by the allergy to the silicon itself.

Q. Can I select the size of the silicon implant?

Silicon implants are made in various different sizes for different noses. There are even very detailed differences between other manufacturers. However, it is often very hard to find a silicon implant that is the exact perfect size for the patient, so it can only be matched as closely as possible. The size and shape of the nose can further be adjusted with the size of the cartilage.

Q. If I get a revision rhinoplasty and I already used one side of my ear cartilage during my first rhinoplasty, do I have to use my rib cartilage next?

That's not the case, but actually which material you used during the first surgery is the most important. The most important part is whether you have used both your nose cartilage and ear cartilage during your first surgery or only your ear cartilage. Even if you have used one side of your ear cartilage before, it doesn't mean we cannot use the other side this time. There is actually not a lot of ear cartilage that can be used, since the ears are usually not very big. Depending on how much has been used, the rib cartilage may be considered for use.

Q. Which are the most used cartilages for rhinoplasty?

The most frequently used cartilages for rhinoplasty are nose septum cartilage, ear cartilage, and rib cartilage. They are usually selected depending on the cartilage size needed for your nose.

Q. Can other cartilages not be used?

It has to have a certain hardness and be a certain size to be used, so in most cases, we don't use those other parts.

Q. Can we make the nose tip less round with revision rhinoplasty if our skin is thick?

If you have received rhinoplasty once before and it had not made a big difference the first time, then in the revision it will be hard for there to be a dramatic change, if it is due to your thick skin. There is no method to make thick skin thinner through surgery. In revision surgery, the way that the appearance can be improved the cartilage can be tied to give the appearance of an extended nose tip.
