Plastic surgeries help us to become better, and overcome the complexity we have with our appearance. But after all, the most important thing in any procedure is safety. There is no doubt that a professional anesthesiologist has taken on great responsibility in your successful metamorphosis!💥
At present, general anesthesia, local anesthesia, and sleep anesthesia are widely used in plastic surgery. First of all, let's make sure the basic principles of each type of anesthesia are understood. What is general anesthesia?
General anesthesia means that anesthetics act on your central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Your central nervous system will be supressed and you will loose your consciousness, your whole body won't feel pain.
The medicine is usually either inhaled through a breathing msk, tube, or given through an intravenous (IV) line. Patients under general anesthesia will be breathing by machines.
Sleep anesthesia uses drugs similar to general anesthetics but of much less variety, mainly through intravenous lines.Unlike general anesthesia, you will be breathing on your own. It's similar to falling into deep natural sleep. You can't feel the pain but you won't loose your consciousness. Of course, this anesthesia still requires oxygen inhalation and constant monitoring of your vital signs.
What is local anesthesia?
How do you wake up from anesthesia?
The waking-up process is called the emergence. During emergence, the anesthesiologists will gradually reduce the portion of anesthetic drugs in your body so that you will slowly regain consciousness and wake up. After that, patients are taken to the recovery room for further monitoring.
Which anestheisa should I get for my procedure?
General anesthesia is also common in plastic surgery hospitals.such as facial contour surgery, breast augmentation, and so on.General anesthesia need to be accompanied by a professional anesthesiologist to ensure that the patient's vital stays normal, and on the other hand, ensure that the patient is immobile.

For sleep anesthesia, a general body check up is needed and the patients should fill in personal health information to let the anesthesiologist know whether you have a history of illness or allergies.
For general anesthesia, the pre-surgery check up is much more complex. You must accept a blood test, urine test, cardiopulmonary, electrocardiogram and so on to ensure the body condition is good to carry on the anesthesia. For example, serious heart dysfunction, lung dysfunction and other conditions would be recommended to not accept general anesthesia.
Most people believe sleep anesthesia is safer than general anesthesia, but is that really true?
No~No~No~
☝Having the correct type of anesthesia based on what procedure you are undergoing is the key!
Life threatening incidents could happen if you take the sleeping anesthesia when you are supposed to take the general anethesia.
Take breast augmentation surgery as an example~
Breast augmentation surgery is a very meticulous operation, especially since the chest, lungs, and heart are all around, if you suddenly wake up and shake your body during the operation, it will definitely be a fatal injury. And many unprofessional plastic surgeons, or hospitals without resident anesthesiologists, can easily lead to tragedy!
Okay~ These much being said, NANA hope you all have a basic understanding regarding anesthesia now 💓
