Is the lip augmentation trend finally over? NANA thinks not. However, patients are starting to favor a more natural-looking enhancement over dramatic results when it comes to cosmetic procedures. We still want to look like ourselves - but better! Today we will talk about how the lip trend is changing in South Korea, and also what procedures we can get to achieve your ideal lip shape.
In the past patients preferred a sharper V shape at the tubercule area, but this trend is no longer popular, and patients are now looking for a natural, voluminous M-shaped lip with lifted lip corners. Lip filler is most popular among the age group 20s~30s, however many patients in their 40s visit us for lip filler too. The upper lip shrinks as you age and the philtrum will appear longer, which makes you look older. And this can be easily fixed by injecting filler into the upper lip.
How do you design an M-shaped lip with lifted lip corners?
Generally, the dermatologist will inject 4~8 times along the upper lip, to emphasize the M shape. Then 4~8 times will be injected again into the lower lip, to emphasize volume. To create a lifted lip corner, fillers will be injected into the upper lip edges on both sided, so that they will become 'heavier' and naturally creates a lifted lip corner effect.
Noted that lip filler is a (little) painful procedure as lips are thin and full of nerves. Therefore numbing cream will be applied on the lip (for around 20 minutes) before injection. After injection, the swelling will last for 1~2 days and the bruises can last up to a week.
Can I achieve the lip shape I want?
Yes.. and no. Since everyone has different lip sizes, thicknesses, and shapes to begin with, if the reference lip is very different from your own lip, it may not be possible to achieve. Lip filler can enhance your original lip appearance but not completely change the shape.
