Breast Surgery Q&A by one of NANA's best surgeon! 💖 PART 1

 Hi Everyone!

Today, I'm back with some Q&A about Breast Surgery by one of our best surgeons, Dr. Jeong.

Shall we? 😀

💬 Do the breasts feel different when you touch them after inserting implants?

Dr. Jeong : Try grabbing your breast from top to bottom like the picture above. If there is around 2cm space between your fingers, you won't feel any difference as long as the implants are under 350cc. If there are little amount of tissue, you will not feel much difference in terms of the texture.

Dr. Jeong : However, if the space is less than 1cm when grabbing your breast, which means the center would be 1cm. Thereby, both sides would ofcourse not be 1cm. In that case, you may feel the implant while touching it. If you have little breast tissues and insert a big implant, there will be some differences.

Dr. Jeong : Try to grab like mentioned earlier, and if you don't have much to grab due them almost stuck to the ribs, that means your breast skin will not be able to stretch much during the surgery.

Dr. Jeong : You may even feel your skin is going to tear as it is overstretched. Thus, the breasts will feel very different when you touch them after the surgery. Then when time passes by, it takes around 6 months for the breast implants to settle. When you grab it for the first time, and if your chest is easily grabbed, this means that your breasts won't feel that much tight.

💬 What materials can you use for breast augmentation?

Dr. Jeong : There are three types of materials you can use.

Dr. Jeong : In terms of filler for breast augmentation, liquid silicone is used widely. However, it is a non-dissolvable filler, and it should never be used. The non-dissolvable fillers turn hard and swell inside your breast. Therefore, non-dissolvable fillers should not be used, and I do not recommend using the filler as well. For dissolvable fillers, they disappear after one year

Dr. Jeong : Breast fat grafting is done by harvesting fat from your body and transplanting it to your breast. Usually, you can transplant 200cc of fat to each breast during the first round of fat grafting. However, not all of the 200cc can survive. At the second round of breast fat grafting, you can transplant another 200cc. In total, 400cc of fat can be grafted on the breasts. However, similar to fillers, fat can calcify

Dr. Jeong : If you melt a large amount of fat, it can cause calcification, and that is not ideal. Not only having dissatisfaction with size, but also possibilities of calcification, and the chance of getting oil cysts. Many patients who have gotten breast fat grafting, decide to go with breast implants due to size dissatisfaction.

Dr. Jeong : Even though there are a lot of disadvantages to breast implants, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. If you are considering breast augmentation, it is better to choose breast implants over fat grafting.

💬 Is it easy to remove breast fillers?

Dr. Jeong : We can inject filler dissolving solution directly into the area that was filled up with filler to dissolve the fillers, but it cannot be dissolved evenly

💬 Can fillers be absorbed?

Dr. Jeong : Yes, if it is dissolvable filler. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the ones that can be dissolved completely. Aquafilling filler, even though it's called aqua, it does not dissolve in water. Thus, it should not be used.

💬 Are there any cases of revision breast augmentations after removal in NANA?

Dr. Jeong : We can remove the fillers as a whole if they are in a lump. We often use the term 'scrape out' when removing foreign substances. Even then, it cannot be scraped out 100%. I can say about 50% to a maximum of 70% can be removed.
It's difficult to remove the fillers in between very thin layers. Hence, all the fillers can't be removed. We can only remove the most visible layer of fillers. It will come out when cleansing the area too. However, some fillers that are in between the breast tissues will still be left.

💬 Will the areola size change after breast augmentation?

Dr. Jeong : It is difficult to say. Some do become bigger and some remain the same. This depends on the characteristic of the areola that one possesses. In most cases, the areola will be enlarged slightly. Rather than the areola getting bigger, it's actually the way it looks that makes it bigger as areola is bloated.

Dr. Jeong : However, there is one case where the areola becomes severely big.

Dr. Jeong : There are breasts shaped like a triangle. For people who have breast shapes like that, their breast tissues are developed around the areola instead of around the whole breast. These people usually have stretchy areola, and would have no breasts but only droopy areola.

Dr. Jeong : If breast implants are inserted in such case, the areola will be huge as the areola lack the strength.

Dr. Jeong : If that's not the case, the areola size will not have much difference after breast augmentation. For those who did not have much breast volume, you will not feel your areolas becoming bigger. For those who had bigger breasts before but are now smaller, maybe by weight loss or due to breastfeeding, so the breasts are now shrinked and augmented to the previous size. In that case, the areola may become bigger after breast augmentation.

We have tackled about breast augmentation so far, however, we will come back with more details in Part 2!
