Special food on rainy days in Korea😍

'비 오는 날 막걸리'

If you have ever lived in Korea, you probably have heard the sentence above. It means 'On rainy days, drink makgeolli.'

First of all, for those who don't really know what makgeolli is, NANA will insert a short introduction below:

"Makgeolli is a traditional Korean liquor. It is usually made by adding yeast to rice or wheat and fermenting it. In the case of rice makgeolli, it is made through the process of washing rice clean, making and cooling rice, adding yeast and water, fermenting it for several days, and filtering it through a sieve."

There is a scientific basis for "have pajeon and makgeolli on a rainy day."

People get a little depressed on rainy days, and pajeon and makgeolli are said to relieve this depression.

When it rains, the amount of sunlight decreases, reducing the secretion of serotonin that induces happiness. Then, our body feels depressed, and at this time, we think of pajeon because amino acids and vitamin B in pajeon remind us of experiences that have helped relieve depression by increasing carbohydrate metabolism and activating serotonin in the body.

In the case of makgeolli, alcohol-containing alcohol itself helps reduce depression and contains 0.8 percent of organic acids that are rich in protein, vitamin B, inositol, and choline, which facilitates metabolism, so people visit makgeolli.

An official from the liquor industry said, "If you get depressed on a rainy day, you eat makgeolli that can mix with pajeon and forget about depression," and explained, "These customs of the ancestors did not just come out, but they are actions with scientific grounds."

Best,
