Ptosis Correction: Incision or Non-Incision?

Hello everyone!

Today let's talk about Ptosis Correction!

What is ptosis?

Ptosis is a condition where drooping of the eyelids occurs due to having a weak levator muscle.
Other factors such as age and having excess fat on the upper lids can cause ptosis as well.
Not only is ptosis aesthetically displeasing, as it causes a person to look sleepy and tired, but it can also cause functional discomfort to those who have it.

People with ptosis tend to use their forehead muscles to drag up the eyelids and open their eyes wider, worsening forehead wrinkles and hollowness above the brows.

Ptosis correction is therefore desirable to look less tired and for the eyes to feel less tired too and to stop using your forehead muscles too much as well as to get rid of other discomforts.

According to aesthetic standards, our eyes look best when 80 to 90 percent of the iris is exposed.
However, for those who have ptosis, only about 60 percent of their iris is exposed when fully opened.
Getting ptosis correction can refine your eyelid lines, and help you open your eyes wider easily without feeling or looking tired or without using your forehead!

Who are the candidates for ptosis correction

Incision or Non-incision Ptosis?

A board-certified surgeon will decide whether or not an individual needs incision or non-incision ptosis before the surgery.
Before a trip to the doctor, you can do a quick self-diagnosis as well.

Non-incision Ptosis Correction

Ptosis is corrected by making very small holes on the upper lid
Excess fat and skin removal is almost impossible
- Ideal for candidates with mildly sagging eyelids
- There is almost no scar after the surgery
- Not a good option for those with severe muscular ptosis
- Unable to unify multiple lines or get rid of existing lines/fold on lids
- Minor swelling after the surgery

How is non-incision ptosis correction performed?

Incision Ptosis Correction

A small incision area is made to correct ptosis
- Fat (and skin) removal is possible
- Ideal for candidates with moderate to severe ptosis
- Incision leaves a scar, but with scar care we can minimize the appearance
- Refining eyelid line/folds into new line/fold is possible
- Swelling lasts longer than non-incisional
