Breast Surgery Procedure and Methods

Today let’s look at breast surgery procedure and methods as explained by our chief surgeon dr. Hwang Dong Yeon~

When you first visit our hospital we will proceed with the consultation, during which we discuss and check your concerns. To design your ideal breasts there are multiple things to consider and measure such as the size of the thorax, position of the nipple, level of sagging, position of the collarbone etc.

Let’s explain the ideal chest shape:

Everybody’s body proportions are different so the ideal ratio will also be different, but usually for breast, the ideal ratio can be considered like this:

When the length from the center of the clavicle to each nipple is the same length, forming an equilateral triangle as seen on the picture.

But rather than following this ideal ratio it is important to focus on each individual’s body balance and choose the right size of the implants to achieve a beautiful-looking bust line.

When proceeding with the surgical plan, we must also choose the location of the incision.

A lot of the patients are asking what is the best location for the incision? The most commonly known ones are the armpits and the line under the breast and it’s up to the patient to choose. A lot of patients are also asking about the pros and cons of each method, which we will discuss later on.

Breast Surgery Procedure

Every surgeon performs the surgery using a different method, but we at NANA Plastic Surgery Hospital perform it using an endoscope. We use it to reduce damage of the skin tissue.

To insert the implants, the skin must be separated, but if we operate ignoring the position of blood vessels and nerves, it can cause extreme pain as well as hematoma.

Separating the skin using an endoscope helps procure adequate space to fit the breast pocket and at the same time prevents blood vessel and nerve damage, bringing safe and high-quality results.

Keller Funnel

After securing the pocket space, a sizer is inserted and then the implants, after confirming their size and shape. The implants are inserted using a Keller funnel.

In the past the implant was inserted by hand and during this process the implant could get contaminated or ruptured due to excessive force.

The Keller funnel has a lot of advantages in terms of hygiene, safety, reducing surgery time and reducing skin tissue’s contact with oxygen.

Dermabond

The final step after confirming the shape and size and the overall progress of the procedure is suture.

For suturing we use Dermabond.

A lot of people worry about the scarring after a breast augmentation surgery. By using Dermabond we can lessen this concern.

We use dissolvable thread to suture the layer of subcutaneous fat and the dermis; for the outer skin surface layer we use medical glue, Dermabond.

Dermabond leaves no thread-shaped scar and is also waterproof, allowing the patient to shower immediately after surgery.

The surgery is finished after suturing.
